Medifast Your Way to a Healthy Life

November 18th, 2009

It is never too late to start on a diet to achieve a healthy life.  Medifast diet program makes dieting simple and convenient for everyone.  There is so much media attention on advising people on what food they should avoid but little information is given to what food can be the best alternative or substitute.  This is where Medifast differs from all other diet programs in the market today.

Medifast has been around for almost 3 decades making sure people who want to lose weight be given a chance to do it the easier way possible.  They do not only inform what food to avoid, they produce meal replacements that are incredibly easy to prepare. These are balanced cooked food packets that a dieter can carry anywhere at anytime.  One does not need to bring on a calorie calculator just to see every day if every single meal falls under the required number of calories for that day.

The Medifast 5 and 1 Meal Plan has enjoyed success over the years and that is the reason why around 20,000 general practitioners all over the country have been recommending the use of this diet program.

It would probably take some time before one can adjust to the meals since the portions are small.  However, this process would make it more successful in the long run since the stomach will then be able to adjust to it and would not require for bigger intake.

Medifast diet is not only all about losing weight but maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  If there is one thing that makes the whole process of losing weight annoying is the food preparation like counting calories and trying to plan a menu.  It is already unbearable to limit your food intake but the end result of the preparation more often than not does not satisfy your taste buds and that makes it even more irritating.

Around 70 types of 5 and 1 meals are available in Medifast which are cooked in different ways such as soup, bars, oatmeal, shakes, chili, etc. These are called meal replacements.  Everyday one is required to eat the 5 replacements along with a lean and green meal which include a 7 oz. lean meat in the form of beef, pork, fish, turkey or lamb.  You can have it in whatever kind of cooking you prefer but not fried along with the approved types of vegetables in Medifast.

As long as the dieter will follow the diet program, it guarantees a positive result.  It has been said that one can lose around 2 to 5 pounds a week.  It is not as fast as the other trendy diets out there but Medifast will not sacrifice a person’s health just to make them lose weight rapidly without taking considerations of their health.

This is the reason why, this weight management program still exists up to this day.  Not only because most doctors highly recommend its use but because it is promoting healthy lifestyle not just trying to eliminate unwanted excess fats.

Healthy Weight Loss: A Whole Body Tune Up

June 6th, 2009

The fuel that you put into your body is important. In fact, it’s the most important thing when it comes to weight loss. Without nutritious and healthful foods, you can exercise for hours on end each day without making a bit of progress. The right foods are crucial to your weight loss success. Consider for a moment that your body is much like a car. You’d never fill the gas tank with water or some other liquid, right? Your car, of course, wouldn’t run properly if you did. Why is your body any different? Well, it isn’t, and this is why you must also fill your body with proper fuel to ensure that it functions well. If you fill your body’s tank with cookies, cakes, and ice cream, you’ll be building up gunk in your body’s engine. Instead, you should eat clean burning fuel to help your body function best. This means you’ll want to consume quality sources of lean protein, good carbohydrates, and plentiful green veggies. Healthy weight loss requires that your engine run smoothly. In order to achieve this, you’ll have to eat the right kinds of foods at the right times. Healthful lean proteins include lead red meats, skinless chicken breast meat, fish, and egg white or whole-egg substitutes. Carbohydrates have a bad reputation, but you should eat the good, fibrous ones instead of the processed, sugar laden kind. Good carbs include whole grain cereals, breads, pastas, brown rice, oatmeal, and potatoes, among many others. Green veggies like broccoli, brussels sprouts, asparagus, spinach, and many others round out a nutritious diet. Now that we’ve covered what to eat, let’s talk about proportions. Eating these different macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats) in the right proportions is important for weight loss. There are a couple of different approaches to take. Depending on your appetite and your need to sate your hunger, you could eat three equal fist-size servings of lean protein, good carbs, and green veggies. Or, for faster weight loss, half of your plate can be green veggies with protein and carbs making up one-fourth each. Not only do you need to know what to eat and in what proportions, but knowing when to eat them is just as crucial for weight loss. The ideal is to eat 6 meals spread evenly throughout the day every 2 to 3 hours. This provides your body’s engine with a consistent supply of nutrients for optimal functioning and fat burning. It promotes a feeling of well being, and helps you lose weight more easily. Finally, don’t overlook the importance of drinking water. Drink a large 12 ounce glass of water with each meal. This is important to keep food moving through your digestive tract. As a precaution, check with your doctor before you begin a new weight loss or fitness regimen.

Healthy Ways to Lose Weight Before Summer

May 7th, 2009

With summer fast approaching, its time to get that beach wear out of the closet and see if last years mini skirt still fits. But when the button isnt closing and the waistband is not stretching, it can only mean one thing: you have gained weight.

Everyone wants to look their best this time of year, and many resort to yo-yo diets and crazy exercise regimes to trim off those layers of winter insulation. Nutritionists, health gurus, and osteopaths point out that we dont necessarily need to drink vitamin shakes, starve yourself, or go to the gym for hours on end to lose weight; there are much healthier and simpler ways to get your body to look and feel great.  Here are some healthy, natural ways for you to slim down this spring:

Eating Right

It may seem clich, but the most basic thing you can do to help rid your body of those unwanted pockets of fat is to eat the right foods. While carb counters fuss about the amount of carbohydrates in each meal, doctors say that carbohydrates are essential sources of energy for the body, and therefore must not be avoided.

So what foods are particularly important? To detoxify your body, it is recommend to consume acidic fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, and lemons. Other foods such as green tea, broccoli, and oatmeal are excellent for your metabolism. But remember, it is just as important monitor how much you eat as well as what you eat. If you try to have many regular light meals throughout the day, as opposed to huge quantities at a time, you will start to feel healthier and fitter almost immediately.

Regulating your Metabolism

It is wise to limit your food intake, but dont starve yourself. Many people think that by skipping meals they are sparing themselves the opportunity to gain weight. This is not true. Whenever you skip a meal, your body responds by slowing down its metabolism to help you conserve energy. In order to lose weight you need to speed up your metabolism ” not slow it down.

By boosting your metabolism you speed up the rate at which it converts food to energy, and you are preventing your body from storing it as excess fats.  Eating five light meals a day at regular times ensures that your metabolism also regulates itself, becoming faster and better at converting foods to energy instead of fat.

Sleep and weight

Weight loss is also affected by the amount of sleep you get. Many people assume that by laying down for eight hours a day their bodies do nothing. They might be surprised to learn that while you sleep, your body regulates certain hormones that affect your appetite and weight loss. In fact, recent studies have shown that many people who sleep less are more prone to gaining weight, because their hormone levels are disrupted. Of course sleep is good for everything, not just weight loss, as it revitalizes the entire body, so you have nothing to lose (except weight, that is) by getting in a few more Zs every night.

While this is a very general overview of natural solutions to weight problems, it does provide insight into how our bodies work to aid the weight loss process. As long as you keep eating the right foods, get plenty of sleep and regular exercise, that button on your surf shorts might just be able to close by the end of spring.
